Double bass and bass guitar for amateur musicians:
Whether you are interested in brushing up on technique, need help transcribing a particular song or bassline, want some advice with learning a particular style, want to take a graded exam (I'm ABRSM registered), or if you are applying for a degree or conservatoire place, I can help you to achieve your goals! I'm friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all styles of music. Although most of my professional performing experience is in jazz and popular music, I'm also an accomplished classical double bassist with a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music diploma (equivalent to a Bmus degree)
Double bass and improvisation for professional musicians:
Practice is art. Learning how to practice effectively and efficiently is the greatest barrier to successful performance. Often overlooked by professional bass players is the importance of technique; only by stringent study of technical facility over the whole instrument can we hope to master the instrument and the role of the bass. In addition to helping you with all aspects of technique, I can also help with:
- • Strengthening time-feel, Rhythm and becoming better at playing in odd time signatures
- • Improvising in different situations; complex chord or rhythmic sequences, free improvisation
- • Learning harmony and ear training
- • Learning standard repertoire
- • Composition and music theory
Looking to improve your understanding of harmony? Help with writing your own music? Music theory? Learning to use Sibelius properly? I can help with all of this too!
Lessons take place either via Skype or at my home in South East London. I have a large space with a piano for accompaniment and demonstration/discussion.
